When I moved to Australia in 2019, one of my first impressions was just how vast and
untamed this country really is. The open spaces, winding backroads, and remote bushland seemed to call out for exploration.
After 20 years of battling London traffic and riding scooters through tight European streets, the idea of motorcycling had always come with a healthy dose of anxiety—it felt more dangerous than fun.

From City Commuter to Aspiring Explorer
Sure, I’d owned a few scooters and motorcycles back in the city, weaving through
congestion and dodging double-decker buses. But it wasn’t until I landed in Australia that the idea of real two-wheeled adventure started to take root.
Like many others, I was inspired by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman’s globe-trotting expeditions. Their passion for discovery lit a spark in me. But I had a dilemma: where do you start when your off-road experience is zero and your confidence isn’t much higher?
YouTube University and the Spark of Curiosity
As with most things these days, I turned to the internet. I binged YouTube videos, read bike reviews, watched rider tips, and started to piece together what this new lifestyle might look like.
I didn’t know if I’d fall in love with riding. But I knew I loved to travel. I loved exploring. And that was enough to push me into the world of adventure motorcycling.
Riding in Australia Means Learning New Rules
But riding here isn’t just about picking the right bike and hitting the trail. Australia brings
its own unique set of challenges—ones I hadn’t even considered at first.
It’s not just long distances and remote roads. The hazards here aren’t always other
drivers—they’re often furry, fast, and unpredictable.
Kangaroos can appear out of nowhere at dusk. Wombats, tough little tanks of the bush, can be road hazards too. Even snakes might sunbathe across a trail when you least expect it. Staying safe on a motorcycle in Australia means learning to expect the unexpected.
The Beginning of Something Bigger
And so began my journey—not just into motorcycling, but into understanding the land,
respecting its risks, and learning how to ride in a way that’s both adventurous and aware.
It was the start of something I knew would challenge me, thrill me, and ultimately change how I see the world.
